The History of the Goofs List: This list is again managed by Murray Chapman . It was originally managed by Paul Bakker, but he offered it to me when he realized I was more interested in it that he was. When I started the trivia list, I handed the goofs list to Michael Gaines. Michael managed it for a while, eventually handing it briefly to Col Needham . Realizing that having the goofs and trivia list managed by one person would make both jobs easier, I volunteered to take it back. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Internet Movie Database consists of the following lists: List | Maintained by | Updated ---------------------|-------------------------------------------|---------- Actors | Col Needham | 08/16/96 Actresses | Col Needham | 08/16/96 Alternative Names | Michel Hafner | 08/16/96 Alternative Titles | Michel Hafner | 08/16/96 Alternative Versions | Giancarlo Cairella | 08/16/96 Biographies | Mark Harding | 08/16/96 Business | Giancarlo Cairella | 08/16/96 Cast Completion | Col Needham | 08/16/96 Certificates | Mark Harding | 08/16/96 Cinematographers | Michel Hafner | 08/16/96 Color Information | Mark Harding | 08/16/96 Composers | Michel Hafner | 08/16/96 Costume Designers | Harald Mayr | 08/16/96 Countries | Mark Harding | 08/16/96 Crazy Credits | Mark Harding | 08/16/96 Directors | Col Needham | 08/16/96 Editors | Harald Mayr | 08/16/96 Genres | Colin Tinto | 08/02/96 Goofs | Murray Chapman | 08/16/96 ISO AKA Titles | Peter Simeon | 03/08/96 Language | Mark Harding | 08/16/96 Laser Discs | Peter Simeon | 08/16/96 Literature | Joachim Polzer | 07/19/96 Locations | Rob Hartill | 08/16/96 Misc. In a subsequent shot, they are down again. - CONT: The distance from the plane to the terminal decreases for one shot. - CONT: Laurel claims that Los Angeles is deserted, yet cars can be seen moving. - FACT: Attempting to steer an airplane moving along the ground at more than 100 knots will cause the landing gear to be destroyed. # "Road to Avonlea" (1990) - CONT: In the episode entitled ``Aunt Hetty's Ordeal'', a close up of Cecily as she falls off of a stack of boards shows that she is wearing the bib of her dress outside her pinnifore. In the other shots, she is wearring her bib tucked in. - CONT: In a the episode entitled ``Christmas in June'', Cecily loses a medallian, but can be seen wearing it again before it is refound. - CONT: In the episode entitled ``The Story Girl Earns Her Name'', the black cloth on Sara's left shoulder disappears momentarily. # "Stand, The" (1994) (mini) - CONT: Larry passes the same car three times in the Lincoln Tunnel. - SYNC: When Stu shoots Dietz in the Disease Control Center, we hear gunshots after we see the wounds - CONT: When Nick Andros meets Julie Lawry in the drugstore, he puts down the bottle twice. - CONT: Nick's hat when he is fighting Ray Booth and his gang. - PLOT: The bread that Tom tries to feed Stu would have rotted after five months. # 'Crocodile' Dundee (1986) - CONT: Reilly shoots Dundee from Dundee's left, yet the wound appears on his right. # 00Schneider - Jagd auf Nihil Baxter (1994) - MISC: When Koerschgen is at the cigarette vending machine, he gets the packet he pretends to be buying out of the left pocket of his trousers. # 1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992) - CREW: Visible on a modern ship, after the camera circumnavigates the ``Santa Maria'' # 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) - CONT: The rotating space station changes its direction of rotation three times. - FACT: Shadows should be changing on the space station as it rotates. - CONT: When Floyd travels from the space station to the moon, both the earth and the moon are gibbous as the same time (as seen from each other). - FACT: The earth should appear closer to the horizon at Clavius than at Tycho, not vice versa. - FACT: The earth is more colorful from space than indicated. - CONT: In the lunar transport en route to Tycho, the photo that Floyd is looking at changes suddenly from color to black and white. - CONT: The notes that Bowman puts on the table where Poole and he have their food. - CONT: The hibernating astronauts are shown lying in different positions at different times. - CONT: Frank Poole sits on a massage table when watching the video from his parents, but a subsequent panaorma show that the table is vacant. - FACT: Stars in the background shouldn't drift slowly past the spaceship when the viewpoint is fixed in relation to the ship. - CONT: In the sequence landing on and flying around on the moon the phase of the earth changes back and forth repeatedly. - CONT: The state of the sandwich eaten on the transport. - FACT: Moon dust doesn't billow. - FAKE: When Bowman is leaving the pod for the first AE-35 EVA, the shadows of the wires suspending him are clearly visible. - CONT: When Bowman leaves the pod to replace the AE-35 unit he is holding it in his right hand so he can use his left hand to control his thruster backpack. In the next shot showing him maneuvering toward Discovery the AE-35 is in his left hand. - CONT: The air-hose on Frank's suit switches sides just before his is hit by the space pod. - CONT: Letter designations of the pods in different scenes. - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - FAIR: When Bowman reenters the ship, he is exposed to vacuum for no more than 10 seconds before operating the repressurization valve. Scientific evidence shows that this would indeed be survivable without grievous harm, notwithstanding the sensational depictions in other movies. - FAIR: There is much debate over the scene where Floyd sips through a straw while on the Pan Am flight to orbit. When he stops sucking, the fluid level in the straw can be seen to drop, which to some observers is taken as a goof, given that we know that there is no gravity on the craft. However, the action of the fluid can be attributed to factors such as vacuum/pressure effects; in any case, the downwards motion of the fluid is consistent with what would be desired in a weightless environment. We can reasonably assume that Pan Am arranged for the fluid to behave in such a manner by constructing the container in a way which would allow it to suck unused fluid safely back into the reservoir. - FAIR: As Dave Bowman climbs into HAL's logic center to shut him off, the seal on his suit's left hand is hanging open. The fact that the audio track of the secret message can still be heard (Bowman turns his head) indicates that there is still air in Discovery. # 3 Men and a Baby (1987) - FAIR: When Jack's mother comes to visit Mary, you can see in the background what appears to be a little boy standing in a doorway. There is a rumor that this is the ghost of a little boy who died in the apartment in which the film was shot. This rumor is false, as the interiors were all shot on a sound stage in a movie studio. The ``ghost'' is actually a cardboard cut-out of Jack wearing a tuxedo. This prop appears later in the film, when Mary's mother comes to collect her. # 39 Steps, The (1935) - CREW: In the mirror that Annabella turns around after arriving at Hannay's flat. # 48 HRS. (1982) - CONT: Reggie loses his handcuffs When Jack throws him into his car after taking him from prison. # 9 to 5 (1980) - BOOM: [top]: during the scene where Violet worries about putting rat poison into her boss' coffee. # Abducted II: The Reunion (1994) - CONT: When travelling to the camping destination, the view of the road ahead is gravel, but paved when seen through the rear window. # About Last Night... (1986) - CONT: Dan's meal on New Years Eve. - CONT: The clock in Dan's City Diner when Litco is giving him the first delivery of stolen restaurant supplies. # Abyss, The (1989) - CONT: The Explorer has its name written on its side in some shots, but not in others. - CONT: Lindsey's hair during the drowning revival scene. - CONT: Coffee's self-inflicted wounds. - CREW: When Coffee is looking out of the window after the warhead is discovered, it is possible to see the hand of the camera operator press off the side of the window. [special edition only] - CONT: Color of the fluid in the fluid breathing suit changes from pinkish to clear. # Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994) - CONT: Position of the stuffed dog relative to the door. - CONT: The color of the read door on the rental van when Snowflake is being kidnapped. - CONT: Aguado's arm positions while at the murder scene. - CONT: Einhorn and Ace switch positions near the end of the murder scene. - CONT: Squealing of van tires on greass when Snowflake is kidnapped. - CONT: The condition of the box that Ace rips after he steps on the bubble wrap. - CONT: Before Einhorn is thrown into the water at the dock, she is not wearing her ring, and when she steps out of the water she is wearing it. # Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995) - CONT: Chess pieces in the ``death'' room when Ace is explaining about the guano. # Addams Family, The (1991) - CONT: The names on the children's exit chutes stop over, and then back again. # Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The (1989) - DATE: A man can be seen wearing a satin stadium jacket in the lower right hand corner as the camera pulls back from the making of the petticoat balloon. # Adventures of Ford Fairlane, The (1990) - CONT: The Kid's shoes when he's sitting on the beach chair at the end. - CREW: Helicopter shadow during the credit sequence. # Adventures of Robin Hood, The (1938) - DATE: A car can be seen in the background when Will Scarlett gets off his hourse to go to the aid of Much (who has just fought with Dickon). # Air America (1990) - CONT: Ryack's necklace after the crash is pointing in the wrong direction. # Alamo, The (1960) - FAKE: Stuntmen can be seen falling onto matresses. - CONT: In the original cut of the movie, one of the pull back scenes of the Alamo surrounded by the Mexican army, you cou ld clearly see a bright yellow school bus motoring on it's intended rounds of Bracketivlle Texas School Children. # Alien (1979) - CONT: In the opening scene, when we see the reflection of computer screen on the helmet, camera shows the computer screen and we can see a cup on the right of the screen. When camera shows the helmet second time and then the screen again, the cup is gone. - CONT: The alien's tale snakes between Lambert's feet, but it's not her feet that are shown. Lambert wears cowboy boots; Kane wears joggers. - CONT: Ripley looks at the alien's hands through a space helmet before putting it on. - CONT: Mother's two 30 second countdowns take 36 and 37 seconds respectively. # Aliens (1986) - CONT: Private Ferro appears suddenly during the briefing on the Sulaco. - CONT: The dropship's cockpit window (doesn't) fogs up as it is transported to the dropbay. - CREW: Foot visible when Frost falls down the shaft. - CONT: Ripley's headset around the time she tells Gorman ``they're cut off''. - CONT: The APC window becomes unshattered. - CONT: The ``caseless'' weapons spit out loads of cases in the airduct chase scenes. - CREW: When Bishop is skewered by the mother alien, you can see the string pulling the stinger through his body. - CONT: The yellow caution light on the loader when the mother alien pulls it into the pit. - CREW: Bishop's ('Lance Henriksen' (qv)'s) body as he stops Newt being sucked out of the airlock. # All the President's Men (1976) - BOOM: Bottom left, when the deputy editor calls out ``Woodstein! Get in here!'' # All Through the Night (1942) - CONT: The ``newest battleship'' that the Nazis want to sink is either the old ``Nevada'' or the old ``Oklahoma'', both build during WWI # American Graffiti (1973) - CONT: Trunk of the upside down car opens itself. # American President, The (1995) - CONT: The President's hairstyle changes as he visits his daughter for the first time. - CONT: Both AJ and the President are potting spots in the pool game. - CONT: The mis-hit cueball returns far too slowly. - CONT: The phone cord is under/over the President's arm. - FACT: It would be impossible to obtain roses in winter from the Rose Garden. # Amos & Andrew (1993) - CONT: Lenses in the Chief of Police's glasses during his interview after escaping from the house. # Anatomy of a Murder (1959) - CONT: Laura's skirt changes to slacks when she leaves the cafe. # Angels and Insects (1995) - CONT: William and Matty both cast at least three shadows on the door, despite being only lit by a single candle. # Anna and the King of Siam (1946) - DATE: The banquet scene includes a performance of Siamese theatrical dance. However, the music which accompanies this performance is unmistakably Balinese gamelan, not Siamese. Furthermore, it's ``gong kebyar'' style, which hadn't been invented yet in the 1860s. # Annie (1982) - DATE: Set in 1933, features _Camille (1936)_ (qv), released in 1936. # Annie Hall (1977) - BOOM: [side]: In the cabin bedroom scene. # Another Fine Mess (1930) - MISC: [Thelma Todd] refers to her husband variously as ``Leopold'', ``Ambrose'', and ``Leopold Ambrose'' due to two different versions of the script. # Apartment, The (1960) - CONT: The frzen daquiri in the cocktail lounge melts, reforms, and melts again. # Apollo 13 (1995) - FACT: Walter Cronkite's narration at the beginning of the film states that the Apollo 11 moon landing occurred 18 months after the fatal launch pad fire. The fire occurred January 27, 1967, thirty months before the Apollo 11 landing. - FACT: There was no party at Jim Lovell's house the night of the Apollo 11 landing. The astronauts who were to fly the subsequent lunar missions were at Mission Control that night. - FACT: The night of July 20, 1969 would have a half moon, not the gibbous moon as shown. Lovell claims that Mount Marilyn is on or near the Sea of Tranquility, ``where the terminator crosses the white part'', when in fact is is nowhere near it. - DATE: NASA's "worm" logo was not developed until 1976. - DATE: ``Mr. Coffee''-type drip pots weren't in use at the time. - FACT: Jim Lovell's license plate is wrong, and his car was blue not red. - DATE: A technician is wearing a Rockwell International logo on his coveralls. The Apollo capsule was built by North American, which did not become Rockwell International until after the Apollo program. - DATE: In April 1970, Lovell's daughter can be seen holding the Beatles' ``Let it Be'' album, which wasn't released until May 1970. - FACT: The film shows the Saturn V rocket being rolled out to the launch pad only two days before its launch date. Saturn V rockets were typically moved to the pad several months before the launch date. - FACT: The paint pattern on the Saturn V shows the test configuration, not the launch configuration - FACT: It was not possible to see the Saturn V while inside the launch tower elevator, as the elevator had no windows and faced the wrong way. - FACT: The launch sequence shows the Saturn's F1 engines firing at T-0 seconds. In reality, the engines would be fired at closer to T-6 seconds to supply full power at T-0 seconds. - FACT: Gantry arms for the Saturn V should be released in unison. - FACT: Ken Mattingly didn't watch the launch from the top of the hill; he was already in mission control in Houston. He is also standing much too close to the launch pad; nobody was allowed closer than three miles from the pad, the radius of the launch danger zone. - FACT: From Mattingly's supposed viewpoint (east of the pad near the beach) the launch tower should have been to the right (north) of the Saturn V. It was shown as being to the left. - FAKE: The downward view toward the rocket rising from the pad shows cars in the parking lots. During an actual launch, the pad is completely evacuated and the lots would have been empty. The background footage used in the composite was taken on an ordinary nonlaunch workday. - FACT: The slam-bang impact at the end of the first stage was completely unexpected, not routine as portrayed. Small retrorockets atop the first stage should have fired immediately after separation to slow the spent stage down instead they fired one second before separation. - FACT: Propulsion jets make no sound when observed from outside the capsule. - FACT: Lovell's cassette player actually did play ``Also Sprach Zarathustra'', not ``Spirit in the Sky''. - FACT: Ken Mattingly was working in Mission Control the night of the oxygen tank explosion, he was not sulking at home with the phone off the hook. - FACT: CAPCOM 'Jack Lousma' (qv) announced he was going to bring his Johnny Cash records with him on Apollo 19, but at the time of Apollo 13 no later Apollo assignments had been made. - FACT: Translunar Injection (TLI) burns were made parallel to the earth's surface, on the far side of the earth from the moon, not while pointed directly at the moon as shown. - FACT: Engines burning hydrogen/oxygen (Saturn 5 2nd & 3rd stages) and hypergolic fuels (all service module and lunar module engines and thrusters) have essentially invisible plumes in a vacuum, not the bright white plumes depicted. - FACT: Tsiolkovski, Fra Mauro, and Mare Imbrium are all far from where the ship would be just before acquisition of signal. The latter two are on the near side of the moon, not the far side. - CONT: ABC News' Jules Bergman (on TV when Ken Mattingly shuts his TV off) mentions that the Lunar Module's descent engine will be used to abort the mission, before Kranz made this decision. - FACT: All communication between mission control and the astronauts were recorded, and none contained profanity. - CONT: An ashtray used by Gene Kranz disappears. - FACT: Joe Kerwin was the capsule communicator (CAPCOM) during the Apollo 13 reentry and landing, not Ken Mattingly. - FACT: When the TV broadcast from the spacecraft is cancelled, Lovell's mother complains ``It's that damn TV Guide again". TV Guide actually listed normal programming for that day, though warning that it might be preempted. - FACT: The lunar surface can't be in daylight at loss of signal, and also at acquisition of signal (on the opposite side of the moon). - FACT: Reentry into the earth's atmosphere should have been made at a very shallow angle, not straight down. - DATE: Telephones shouldn't have the modern jacks. - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - FAIR: It is possible (but rather difficult) to do addition using a slide rule by taking logs and anti-logs. - FAIR: Various other minute contraditions of history. This film is prey to a large number of "FACT" errors, due to the large volume of documentary footage/evidence from the actual event. # Army of Darkness (1993) - CONT: Length of Ash's hair as he searches the forest for the book. - CREW: During the final battle a man in a T-shirt and modern shoes charges in with Henry's army. - CONT: Ash is momentarily dry after falling in the puddle before entering the windmill. - CONT: Ash climbs out of the pit without his shotgun, yet he has it later when he fights Lord Arthur. - CONT: Ash's hair when talking to Lord Arthur about returning back to his own time. - CREW: White-gloved hand holding reigns of Ash's horse as he rides off near the end. # Army of One (1993) - CREW: Reflected in the bad guys' car. # At Sword's Point (1952) - FACT: Queen Anne died in 1666, not 1648. # Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957) - FAKE: Wheels and legs under the giant crabs. # Awakenings (1990) - CONT: Car window when Dr. Sayer is sitting inside talking to Nurse Costello. - CONT: Lucy's feet relative to the checkered floor pattern when she walks towards the window. # Awfully Big Adventure, An (1995) - CONT: Stella's coat as her uncle leaves the bathroom. # Babe (1995) - CONT: The sheep thieves drop their ramp when they leave, but when Hoggett arrives it has gone. - CONT: Babe's feet are muddy when he runs over to the wagon, but clean soon after. - CONT: The alarm goes off at dawn, yet when Babe picks it up it is set for 10:25. - CONT: The fax machine Hoggett receives as a gift is different from the one he uses to send his application for the show. # Baby Boom (1987) - CONT: Door on plumber's van at the new house. # Back to the Future (1985) - CONT: Odometer in the DeLorean when Marty is being chased by terrorists. - CONT: A picture on the table below Biff, and the candy in Biff's hand when he is talking to George about his car in 1985. - CONT: Marty shifts into second gear twice when being chased by terrorists. - CONT: When Marty crashes into the barn in 1955 it's dark but when he drives off a few minutes later it is light. - CONT: The sign atop Red Thomas' campaign car in 1955 changes direction as it turns the corner. - FACT: The JVC camcorder requires constant pressure to operate the rewind feature, not just a single push and release. - CONT: Biff's car changes quickly when he is chasing Marty on the skateboard. - CONT: When being chased by Biff, Marty's grip on the truck momentarily changes from the back to the side. - CONT: Alignment of Biff's car when it hits the manure truck. - CONT: When Marty is pretending to be Darth Vader, the hair dryer in his belt appears and disappears. - PLOT: Right after Marty returns to 1985, the yellow readout (the one that shows when you just left) should read ``November 12, 1955''. Instead, it says ``October'', which is the month in 1985. - DATE: In 1955 Marty plays a Gibson ES-355, a model which didn't exist until 1959. - CONT: The page that Marty rips out of the phonebook at Lou's diner. - DATE: Doc Brown wears velcro footware, which wasn't developed until the 1980s. - CONT: Marty's signature on his warning to Doc changes when we see the letter in 1985. # Back to the Future Part III (1990) - CONT: The clouds in the sky when the Delorean is being chased by Indians. - DATE: The 1885 train shouldn't use knuckle couplers. - CONT: The shadow of the train at the end. - FACT: The train takes a full minute to traverse the last quarter-mile of track, corresponding to a speed of 15 mph, nowhere near 88 mph. - FAKE: When Clara pulls the train's stop cable, there is a shot of the train stopping from head on that is obviously filmed in reverse, as the steam disappears into the train. Additionally, steam trains don't have stop cables; she actually pulled on the whistle cable. - PLOT: Presumably, the Delorean that Doc burried in 1885 should have had gas in it, which could have been used in the other Delorean.
