The FAQ is posted on Fridays to allow propagation by the weekend for all the weekend surfers out there. It is posted bi-weekly because it is getting too big to post weekly. On the weeks it does not appear, a welcome message outlining all of its available locations is posted in its place. There is also a version available for you folks lucky enough to have Web access... point your web client at http://www.gti.net/director/faqindex.html and be on your way for pointing and clicking fun! To get the FAQ via e-mail, you will need to send nine messages to videosan@netcom.com. Use the following for the subject lines (one subject per message): getftp asmfaq/faq-1 getftp asmfaq/faq-2 getftp asmfaq/faq-3 getftp asmfaq/faq-4 getftp asmfaq/faq-5 getftp asmfaq/faq-6 getftp asmfaq/faq-7 getftp asmfaq/faq-8 getftp asmfaq/faq-9 To get a list of all files at Videosan's site (an excellent idea...) use the subject GETFTP INDEX. Or you can FTP it from ftp.netcom.com:/pub/vi/videosan/asmfaq as well. As far as Usenet FAQs as a whole, this is what they told me at FAQ school: Most every FAQ posted to USENET is archived at rtfm.mit.edu (for those of you who don't know, RTFM stands for Read The Fucking Manual -- and they don't mean the Kama Sutra!) The FAQs are stored in the /pub subdirectory. From there, the hierarchy is pretty intuitive. You can choose USENET-BY-HIERARCHY which breaks down into trees for alt*,sci*,soc*, etc. or USENET-BY-GROUP which is a much more generalized listing of groups, with subgroups hanging off the tree... (we'd be hanging off the alt.sex branch) Any FAQ you may want is probably there. It may be a version out of date, but I think the kids up at MIT make a pretty good effort to stay on top of these things... CompuServe has deleted its version of the hypertext FAQ. Hollywood Online, the company that maintains the ShowBiz forum, felt it was obscene. Enjoy! *** END PART 12 ***
